Happy Birthday Woon Han

Many Happy Returns of the Day and I like to share some interesting things retrieved from my journal page dated Friday 19th Oct 1990 at 12.15am , written just hours before you were born : Interesting that the horoscope page cut out from the day's newspaper reads that as one born on this day, you are so straightforward that you usually get what you want when you first try for it! Faced with any kind of stumbling block, you never betray any sign of being threatened, instead you forge ahead with a strong will and determination to get ahead on schedule. You are an original thinker, and you never do anything the way it is "supposed" to be done - unless, of course, that way seems most suitable to your style and frame of mind. Well for that which is most important in your sojourn in life as a youth or young adult, ie. to develop yourself in excellence in an all round fashion as seemingly to be the trend of the Singapore Government for local schools, you have topped that goal in your performance at middle school and again recently in your high school.
Born healthy without any complication at 10.45am weighing 6lb 2oz, looks like you were definitely born a winner! In fact the hospital experience recorded as it happened in the above journal page became Mom's topic in a story telling contest that made her a winner too.
How fast time flies, counting your years 1, 2 and now 20!

On your birthday, dedication has been given to Aunty Diana from Ipoh who has sent you a letter/card that Shuan will take back with him on the way back to Singapore. She will receive notice of this through her sister Doris who has a facebook account. Last but not least, My Prayer for You on your birthday taken from General Mac Arthur for his son : Build me a son, O God, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory. Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds; a son who will know thee-and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge. Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail. Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high, a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men. One who will reach into the future, yet, never forgets the past. And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never takes himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, and the meekness of true strength. Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, “I have not lived in vain"

To our Lady Diana of Ipoh

Dear Diana,

I'm touched each time I get a hand written letter or card from you year after year especially on my birthday and the birthdays of members of our family that you somehow remember.

You are so thoughtful and so many memories rush through my mind now from the day we first met in PJ in the home of your cousin brother. It is through you that I got to know your wonderful family back in Ipoh, headed by Papa and Mama Toh whom the whole church warmly refers to, which led to a humble and wonderful missionary experience for me in Ipoh as recorded here

When I got married with Geok Lee and later had our first baby Fei, you cared for both mother and baby in her first month after birth as recorded in our journal scanned in the below pic.

In fact you were there to help us for every one of our 6 children which makes you so special to our family. In our 20th Anniversary celebration, we expressed gratitude to all who have touched our lives and you are one of them as noted here.

You've been the Auntie Diana of the family all this while but today we specially revere you and announce to the whole world, through Facebook, that you are our Lady Diana of Ipoh! You are nobly noted for your BIG HEART and CONSTANT LOVE regularly expressed to us by personally hand written letters and to many others too, near and far, that I'm aware of. Thank you so much for just being you!
With Lots of Love,
From Sun Fu, Geok Lee and the Gang!

Happiness Mindsight on Dad's and Su's birthday

It's a Happy Birthday for Dad and Su which can be celebrated on the same day as while its 5th October in Malaysia at noon time, it's still 4th October in Utah! Though we're not together today physically to share a cake as we have often done so in the past, my happiness mindsight is sufficient to recall the good times that we have shared together either on our birthdays or other happy days as the following pics show :

The term "Mindsight" by Dr Daniel Siegel was discovered from Dad's life research on Optimal Thinking. Here is a video of what it's all about in brief :

Through Mindsight I can become more aware of my own internal world and that of someone else too especially on her birthday :

Yes, Happy Birthday Su and keep thinking of the Happy Life ahead of you as I continue to live mine shared in My Heart and Mind website. Read especially my last post about My Happy Brain

Earthquake in Singapore

Just a couple of days ago, Mom and Dad attended Han's award presentation night at his junior college (ACJC) where he amazingly received 3 awards.

Little did we know then that a couple of days later, Shuan his next younger brother who was expecting the results of his first semester's exam at Ngee Ann Polytechnic suddenly disclosed that he scored a perfect GPA of 4.0 after scoring 5As for all the 5 subjects he took! He had just started at Ngee Ann earlier in the year with a merit scholarship award based on his O Level examination results of the previous year.

It was only appropriate that the family would celebrate Shuan's excellent results with a lunch at Swensen's in Holland Village nearby. Here are the pics :

Here is Shuan looking his usual cool and steady self.
Lunch was great for all but we couldn't resist ordering and digging into Swensen's Earthquake ice cream dessert as videoed below :
